Student Attendance Policy

Mides Elite Academy Student Attendance Policy

At Mides Elite Academy, we believe that regular attendance is essential for students to achieve their full potential. This policy outlines the expectations, procedures, and consequences related to student attendance for all students aged 11-16.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Promote regular attendance and punctuality as key components of academic success.

  • Establish clear guidelines for managing attendance and addressing unauthorized absences.

  • Foster a partnership between the school, students, and parents/guardians to support consistent attendance.

Attendance Expectations

  1. Daily Attendance

    • All students are expected to attend school every day during the term unless prevented by illness, emergency, or an authorized reason.

    • The school day begins promptly at 8:45 AM, and students must be in their designated classes by this time.

  2. Authorized Absences

    • Authorized absences include those for:

      • Illness with notification from a parent/guardian.

      • Medical or dental appointments (preferably scheduled outside school hours).

      • Religious observances.

      • Other valid reasons approved by the school in advance.

  3. Unauthorized Absences

    • Examples include, but are not limited to:

      • Truancy.

      • Absences without notification from a parent/guardian.

      • Holidays taken during term time without prior approval.

Punctuality

  1. Students are expected to arrive on time for all lessons.

  2. Lateness will be recorded, and the following steps will be taken:

    • Late Everyday : Students will be scheduled for detention that same day

    • Late Once in a week : System will notify when you are late and action to be taken.

Attendance Monitoring

  1. Daily Monitoring

    • Attendance will be taken during morning registration and at the start of each lesson.

    • Parents/guardians will be contacted via phone, email, or text message if their child is absent without prior notification.

  2. Weekly Review

    • Attendance records will be reviewed weekly to identify patterns of absence or lateness.

  3. Long-Term Concerns

    • Students with attendance below 90% without valid reasons will be flagged as a concern.

    • A meeting with the student, parents/guardians, and a member of staff will be arranged to address the issue and implement a support plan.

Consequences for Poor Attendance

  1. Detention

    • Students who are absent without authorization twice in a week will receive a detention.

  2. Parental Involvement

    • If unauthorized absences persist, parents/guardians will be invited to meet with school staff to discuss the issue and identify solutions.

  3. Referral to Authorities

    • Persistent absenteeism may result in a referral to the local education authority in line with statutory guidelines.

Support for Attendance Improvement

  1. Communication

    • Parents/guardians are encouraged to inform the school of any attendance-related challenges their child may face.

    • The school will maintain open communication to address attendance issues effectively.

  2. Interventions

    • Students struggling with attendance may be referred to the school counselor, provided additional academic support, or connected to external resources as appropriate.

  3. Incentives

    • Rewards and recognition for exemplary attendance will be implemented to encourage and celebrate regular attendance.

Parental Responsibilities

  • Notify the school of any absence by 8:30 AM on the day of the absence.

  • Ensure that students arrive at school on time and are prepared for the day.

  • Schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.

School Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate attendance records for all students.

  • Communicate with parents/guardians about attendance concerns in a timely manner.

  • Provide support and interventions for students with attendance challenges.

By working together, we can ensure that all students at Mides Elite Academy receive the best possible opportunities to succeed academically and personally.
